Roseola??? Never Heard Of It

Parker's had a rough last couple of months teething. At the end of January, I took him to the doctor for an ear infection. Two weeks later, I was certain they were still there the way he was pulling on his ears and not sleeping good. But when I took him back, it was just teething. He has had his top 4 front teeth all coming in at the same time! A few weeks ago, the first of four popped through, but he still acted miserable. I took care of that with Tylenol or Ibuprofen but last week was awful! Monday night he had woken up and I noticed a fever and by morning it was still there. I gave him Tylenol (which I had been for days now because of his pain) and figured the fever went along with the teething. Wednesday he was fevering again. He was so hard on Wednesday. He couldn't even fall asleep for his naps because he was so restless but at the same time I could tell he was so tired! I called Justin up and asked him to give him a blessing. In my eyes, he's been suffering from these teeth for 2 months now. That night Justin gave him a blessing that his sickness would leave his body and he would no longer be uncomfortable or in pain and he would be able to sleep. I didn't really think much about the sickness part leaving his body. I just thought he's had a lingering cough from his cold almost a month ago so maybe it was that.

Another thing about Parker, he has eczema, so rough cheeks or little bumps are usual. I had noticed bumps on his neck, under his chin, but just figured he was sweating or hot there. Thursday morning, I noticed the back of his neck was now all bumpy. I put some cream on it (the same I use for his eczema) and left for work. By the time I was done with work, it had spread to the back of his ears, down his back and onto his chest. They were small red bumps all over. My mom mentioned Roseola to me, which I had never heard of. When she told me it was a type of Measles and gave me a print out of the symptoms and everything, my thought was he didn't have a high fever and that must have just been from teething. Also, his second of four teeth had poked through this day, too, so all of his misery was from teething. The next day the rash was worse. It bothered me all day and even called to see if his doctor had an opening, which he didn't so I didn't want to take him to another doctor. (I'm a little biased about my doctor, I guess). By now, the rash was over his face, past his hair line, completely over his belly and spread down into his diaper area. He never really got it on his legs.

Thursday and Friday I had a hard time. Here he had just had a blessing, and the morning after he now had new problems. I have a strong testimony of priesthood blessings...I don't doubt their power, but I was very confused. Thursday night I had a hard time sleeping thinking about all of this. In my head, I sort of told my Heavenly Father that I have faith in blessings, and I heard Justin bless him well, so why was he now rashing all over??? I just wanted help understanding so I would also know if I needed to do something. After work on Friday Parker and Mya took a nap and I searched (again...like I hadn't already done this numerous times) rashes to see what it could be. Everything was leading me to roseola. Even when I typed in Allergy rash the results took me to some one's blog. This blog had a little girl just about Parker's age who was teething and her daughter had a low fever and then a rash. Facts about Roseola is it's usually a high fever that can sometimes cause seizures, but Parker's wasn't ever way high (probably because I had him on Tylenol). This lady wondered if it was an allergic reaction and had a daily recording of signs and had taken her daughter to the doctor daily and by day 3 they decided it was just Roseola (this lady's in Malaysia). I felt like this was my answer. Every search I had done told me it was Roseola. It's the only rash that looked like what Parker had. It helped me to see that the blessing had taken a sickness away that I didn't even know my son had and the fever went away immediately and Roseola ends in a rash, so I guess that's all it was doing. Saturday night his rash had pretty much faded and by Sunday, it was gone.

Other facts about Roseola/Baby Measles/Sixth Disease:
•It's a virus that commonly affects children from 6 months to 2 years-most common age is 9-12 months.
•It is contagious, but not very and is spread through oral secretions
•The fever can be from 103-105 degrees-which can cause seizures-that can last up to a week
•After the fever, a rash that starts at the neck appears and spreads onto the back and front.
•The rash is not itchy
•The best way to treat it is Tylenol.
•It usually does not cause long term effects.
•Professional treatment is usually not required - you just have to wait it out.
•It's not seasonal - can get it any time in the year.
•Call a doctor if you can't get the fever down, child's not drinking, or if your child has a seizure.

Happy Green Day!

Mya told me she didn't like to call it St. Patricks day so we would just call it green day. All day she went around saying Happy Green Day! She asked me when it would be orange, yellow, and blue day....

St. Patricks is one of those holidays I overlook. I love holidays, but small ones like St. Patricks and April Fools get forgotten. There's years I've showed up to my sisters house and I didn't even know it was St. Patricks or April Fools day. So, now being a mom, I have to make a big deal and actually remember all of the holidays. So, what did we do?

Breakfast: Mya just wanted Froot Loops, so we used a green bowl, green spoon, and green cup.

Lunch: Lisa's leftovers...green dye in the pasta alfredo Mya wanted to eat.

Dinner: I made sure I went green for dinner. Green spaghetti noodles, green salad, green garlic bread, and green slush. (Looks disgusting, I know, but it tasted delicious! Those are Picky Palates stuffed meatballs...I would make some changes...once I do I'll post the recipe).

Dessert: Sugar cookies with green frosting.
We wore green. Played Candy Land (I know, has nothing to do with green, but I bought it and Mya got to play it for the first time). Ended the day with green tongues (thank you food coloring).

It was a fun day. Mya told me that she LOVES Green Day!

Me & My Guy!

With two kids, I feel like the one-on-one time with Justin gets lost amongst everything else going on. A lot of times lately, our time together is putting a movie on late at night while we're in bed and falling asleep to it. So any chance I get for a time with just me and Justin, I jump all over it. Last week groupon had a deal for tickets to the Real Salt Lake game. It was $55 for 2 tickets, Parking, 2 beanies and hot chocolate. I had $25 in groupon bucks so the deal ended up costing me $30. I was so excited and last night was the game! It was way fun and they ended up dominating the game and won 4 to 1.

About a month ago, Justin's work needed more trailers delivered to LA and asked Justin to deliver them. Right away I started working things out with the kids and work so I could go with him. Our plan was to go to the Los Angeles Temple while we were there, but since we weren't staying in LA and we had been driving all night, we just felt gross and opted to make a date soon to go to the local Ogden Temple. Since this was our time together, I sort of wanted to make a little vacation out of it so I talked Justin to driving to the ocean after dropping the trailers off. The closest beach from where we were? Malibu. I had never been in Malibu before and it was like another world driving through it. A permanent vactation lifestyle for very wealthy people. It was really fun seeing the houses and beaches and beach houses. At one point I told Justin I would love to have a tour guide sitting right next to me because I was sure we were driving by interesting stuff...well, I did my homework when I got home and mapped out where we drove and these are the houses we drove by:
Jennifer Aniston's beach house, Demi Moore & Ashton Kutcher's, Janet Jackson's beach house, David Spade's, Cortney Cox and David Arquette's former house and Paris Hilton's house she rented. Then there were some names I didn't know:
Lloyd Bridge, Kristin Cavalleri's beach house from the Hills, Jerry Bruckheimer, Terry Semel, and Jeffery Katzenberg.

When we got to Malibu, we went to the beach. Right away I noticed this mansion on the hill overlooking the ocean.
My immediate thought was someone famous must live there. I did a little reasearch and it's actually a $35 million home. Here's a link with some info about the house and the person who owns it: African Greed

We hung out for a little while on the beach watching the surfers and waves. Very relaxing. On the way home we stayed in Mesquite. I seriously love those long drives with Justin. We get so much talking in and no interruptions from kids. Our next date??? I think we'll go see a movie...

Craft Day!

We changed our lesson schedule in Young Womens so I only teach once a month. After I teach a lesson, I always like to see what my next lesson is...I usually don't read through it, just look at the title. Well, the next lessons were combined and I had Temple Endowment and Preparing to go to the Temple. Wow! I felt like that was such a huge lesson...so important. The temple is something I hold close to my heart and am so thankful for. I didn't stress, but worry a little because I wanted my message to be clear and have it hopefully make an impact on the girls because the temple is so important! Within a week, I was at Lisa's and she had the song Virtue by Jenny Phillips playing on her computer when I got there...Lisa wasn't even there yet. As I listened to the song, I knew I needed this song for my lesson. I hadn't even read through it yet so I didn't even know how I would tie it in...but I felt like the girls needed to hear the song. Another night I came across a movie put together by the idea door and same thing...but I still hadn't read through the lesson and had no idea how it would work out.

I can still remember the temple lessons from when I was in Young Women's. I still have the picture of the temple I got from Amie, my leader, from that lesson. I started thinking about that and remembered these cute blocks Amie had done and put on her blog a few months ago. So I contacted her and she helped me get pictures of all of the temples (she does photography now) and got them to look really good for what I was wanting them for. I had asked all of the girls what their favorite temple was so it would be more personal and special for them. So I crafted it up and I loved how they turned out!
The lesson turned out great. Everything fell into place and I had so many girls and leaders come up to me and hug me or thank me in some way for the lesson. I really love my calling and I'm getting to know the girls better each week. The temple is so important and I'm so glad our family is sealed together and Justin and I are able to go there together!

Parker's 9 & 10 months!

Okay, I got way behind with blogging so I never posted his 9 month milestone...but tomorrow he'll be 10 months, so I'm combining them.

By 9 months, Parker learned to wave! He could then start eating ANYTHING that he won't choke on and he loves that! He did have ear infections again and they're all healed up...I'm crossing my fingers that his current cold won't result in more ear infections.

10 Months! This kid is EVERYWHERE!!! He's into everything and he's so funny! Last week I heard him in his room...he was supposed to be asleep but he just hadn't fallen asleep yet (it had been 20-30 minutes). So I go in there to see what was up and I'm surprised with a diaperless boy! He was happy, but his bed was soaked. It was one of those moments where I wasn't laughing a lot when it happened, but I think it's hilarious today! He loves wrestling and just started getting into cars...it's cute because he makes sound effects! Parker is so close to walking! He can stand by himself, and he walks along furniture or holding my hand, but just hasn't gotten to the point of walking. He is very affectionate! He's always giving hugs and kisses, he's a total boy...can't hold still in church and is loud, but who was I to think he would be another Mya??? Definitely his own personality and I love it! Mya is one of his favorite people. He loves playing with her and there's an immediate smile when he sees her. He talks a little...he says Momma, Hi Momma, Bye bye momma, momma, uh oh, momma, has said dad 2 or 3 times, oh, did I mention he says momma? Not bragging...that's just mostly what comes out of his mouth. The other day I was trying to get him to say Dad and he looked right at Justin and said Momma. Stinker. He can say it, but chooses not to. He's so funny. Such a joy to have him added to our family!

Barbies!!!

We are bombarded with Barbies over here! We're constantly hearing: will you play barbies with me, will you fix her dress, will you put her shoes on, will you fix his leggs?

Yes, Mya is obsessed with Barbies. It's cute and I'm so glad her dollhouse was a hit. Her barbies go with her everywhere. Today I let her pick two to take with us to our hair appointments so she'd have something to play with while my hair was getting cut. She picked Eugene and Rapunzel (both from Tangled). I was a little concerned on the way (and trying hard not to laugh) when Mya and I were headed down and Mya said, Eugene loves boobies...Not sure where she got that from...but for the most part it's wholesome fun. The other night Mya told me her barbies were having Family Home Evening. She really is so cute with them! It totally takes me back to when I loved barbies...but I completely lost the touch. I'm going to have to learn how to play barbies again.

Her barbies having FHE and Mya took the last picture:
